Planning and Training Division

HSEMA's Planning and Training Division prepares the District for dealing with the consequences of various natural and manmade hazards.

The division:

  • Presents training seminars, workshops and conferences for public safety personnel
  • Provides training at FEMA's National Emergency Management Institute (EMI)
  • Assists in exercising emergency plans
  • Facilitates independent study course programs
  • Educates the public in emergency preparedness and crisis and consequence management
  • Awards special training grants
  • Plans for prompt, coordinated response to all forms of threat from disasters and hazards
  • Identifies areas vulnerable to these hazards and takes steps to lessen potential damage
  • Develops and tests plans to preserve life and property
  • Identifies necessary shelters and evacuation procedures

Training courses offered by HSEMA are available to emergency services personnel from all levels of government, representatives of business and industry, and other personnel with responsibility for response to or management of resources related to emergency preparedness activities of government.

Training announcements are distributed District-wide. Course offerings, dates, and locations are subject to change based on student enrollment, availability of instructors, and facilities.

Anyone involved in emergency management can apply for any of the courses sponsored by HSEMA. However, some courses require prerequisites that will be indicated on the training announcement.
