The National Archives Celebrates the Declaration of Independence (Reading) Union Station 50 Massachusetts Avenue, NE Washington, DC

The National Archives, 10th and Constitution Avenue, NW, will be closed for renovations. The Annual reading of the Declaration of Independence relocates to Union Station. Featured readers include Maureen Bunyan from Channel 7 news and Gurvir Dhindsa of Channel 9 news stations.
The National Archives celebrates the 226th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by presenting free family activities, patriotic music and a special display of the 1823 copper plate used to print the Declaration of Independence.
Schedule 10 am - 1 pm
John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and a revolutionary war soldier present historic interpretations of their contributions and positions in American history.
10-10:45 am and 1-1:45 pm
Conservators from the National Archives will answer questions about preserving important family documents.
10 am - 1:30 pm
Children may contribute their visions of happiness on the Capital Children's Museum's "The Pursuit of Happiness" wall.
10 am - 1:30 pm and 3:30-5 pm
The US Bureau of Engraving and Printing presents demonstrations of the 19th century art and craft of the Intaglio "Spider" hand press.
2-3:30 pm
The main ceremony features a presentation of colors by the Armed Forces Color Guard, video presentations from the National Archives and a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence by Maureen Bunyan, news anchor from ABC channel 7, Gurvir Dhindsa, reporter and news anchor from CBS-9 and historical reenactors.
Visitors are encouraged to use Metro.
